In Gloria Dreams...

The sound of running water still filled Gloria’s head as she slowly started waking up from a dream. She could still smell the soil as the water had first made contact with it after the men released the lock that was positioned at the center of the dam. She started remembering the vivid dream as if it were a real memory in her mind. She could see her father standing across the bank and see the other men strategically positioned beside the canal along the length of the series of dams that served as locks that were put in place to control the flow of the running water. She heard them yell back and forth to each other as the water was slowly released into the canal. She was positioned along the bank and felt that she was only a child watching the events that were unfolding before her eyes. The water started flowing faster through the canal as the men continued yelling and motioning. She remembered looking down and watching the water flow and thinking it was beautiful as she smelled the soil as it began to become saturated. She watched it ebb and flow as it became faster and she looked across the canal to see her father smiling and waving at her. She was elated and fascinated by the orchestra of action that has just taken place before her very eyes. Then, very slowly she realized it was only just a dream as she began to wake up to a gloomy, wintry, Sunday afternoon. It was almost Christmas and Gloria was 14 years old and ready and excited about her upcoming birthday and Christmas holiday from school. The dream still fresh in her mind she removed the covers and sat up in bed.
